Cloud Services in Plain English

There’s a lot of hype around the word “cloud”, but it doesn’t really mean anything more than “hosted somewhere else.” It’s about using other people’s hardware to run the services you need.

Cloud services can be very helpful, but they aren’t suitable for everyone. Talk to us and we’ll give you honest, impartial advice about whether the cloud can work for you. Our solutions are engineered to meet your scalability and security needs with ease.

Cloud Servers

For many businesses, cloud servers are an ideal solution. Unlike shared hosting, your server space is available solely to you.

With shared hosting, your service provider’s other customers are also making demands upon the system so you can suffer ‘slow’ periods when they are active. The cloud eliminates such frustrations and keeps you fully productive.

  • A flexible, cost effective solution
  • Always fast, responsive, and reliable
  • No up-front investment costs – pay only for what you use
  • No commitment to repairs and maintenance
  • Capacity is always available, and copes easily with activity peaks

Cloud-based servers can perform the same functions as conventional, on-site servers but, like other cloud solutions, they are easily scalable. As your needs grow, so you can simply call up more resources without having to invest in new hardware of your own. If you do decide to make the move, we can move your data and servers to the cloud. We’ll take care of everything, from the initial planning to connectivity and testing.

Cloud Storage

One of the great benefits of using the cloud for data storage is that you can increase its capacity without ever having to invest in your own hardware. You don’t have to devote time and money to commissioning or maintaining systems, nor to recruiting the staff to manage them. Quite simply, cloud storage grows with your needs.

At AMP, we provide cloud storage solutions for many of our clients. We supply all the necessary hardware and software, so you don’t have to worry about a thing. We can help you with:

  • Online data storage
  • Routine back ups
  • Databases
  • Software on demand
  • Disaster recovery – strategy and support
Cloud Email

Like many cloud-based solutions, cloud email gives you access to servers that are modern, secure and maintained in top condition, all with the added safeguard of multiple redundancy and back-ups. It removes the need for you to invest in hardware of your own, and the obligation to monitor and maintain it in order to ensure continuity.

With cloud email, you can count on reliable, always-on communications, and you only pay for the capacity you need. Our pricing and licensing model means that you can scale the service up or down in line with changes to your business. You can do this as often as you need to, only paying for the number of mailboxes you use.

We offer premium cloud email for business, a robust and highly scalable solution based on Microsoft Exchange. Secure and versatile, it’s fully supported by our in-house Service Desk team. Fully trained and certified, our technicians are available to support you day to day, and during the transition from on-site to cloud-based email. We will transfer your existing emails and systems quickly and securely, and we’ll schedule the work to keep disruption to the absolute minimum.

Office 365

Office 365 is a cloud-based productivity platform that gives you access to an extensive range of Microsoft Office products – anywhere, anytime and on any device.

Hosted remotely, it means you can use the same software anywhere that you have an internet connection, so you can even use it on the move. That delivers obvious benefits in terms of productivity and the ability to work flexibly. We’ve helped countless clients to buy and implement Office 365, and to understand how to get the most from it. Talk to us and we’ll help you unlock a wealth of business benefits, including:

  • Cost-certainty: a fixed, affordable price; one monthly subscription.
  • Familiarity: access all your favourite Microsoft tools: Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Scalability: add other MS applications as required.
  • Confidence: secure and self-updating; no hidden update costs.
  • Versatility: enjoy enterprise class email services, shared calendars and online conferencing facilities.
  • Simplicity: cloud-based storage makes access and file sharing easy.
  • Security: stores, syncs and shares files via secure cloud-based technologies.
Cloud Desktops

Cloud desktops are a great way of maintaining exactly the same digital working environment, wherever you happen to be working.

We’re all comfortable with our own computer desktops but, with a cloud desktop, you get to keep and access that same familiar layout wherever you happen to be working. They’re especially helpful if you often need to work from different locations, or even on the move. If you have an internet connection, then all your files, software and shortcuts will be right there where you expect them to be. You don’t need to carry your hardware around with you; the cloud makes it all immediately accessible on a wide variety of devices.

At AMP, we offer a secure, reliable, Windows 10 enterprise desktop, complete with Office 365, all backed by remote support, updates and a very affordable monthly pricing plan. As experts in cloud technologies, we can support and advise you at every stage of the process, and help you develop a solution that is the best fit for your organisation.

De-Clouding

There are certainly many benefits to cloud-based technologies, but the cloud isn’t right for everyone.

There are plenty of circumstances in which it’s practically or financially more sensible to have your own hardware on-site, and to move at least some of your operations back ‘in house’. De-clouding (also known as ‘un-clouding’) may be a more cost-effective option if, for example, you can be confident that your workload and the size of your organisation will remain relatively unchanged. If that’s something you’re thinking about, you’ll find us ready and able to help.

Fundamentally, we want to make sure that you choose the right systems for the right reasons. First, why not let us check your systems and processes, so we can confirm what’s going to be your best, most cost-effective approach? We’re impartial and experienced, so we’re well placed to explain your options. Then, having identified which (if any) of your systems would benefit from de-clouding, we can provide all the help you need to make it happen.
