Cyber Essentials Certification
Level One: Cyber Essentials
Providing businesses a straightforward way to demonstrate they are following essential cyber security best practices, the standard Cyber Essentials certification is an independently verified self-assessment process. Basically, it’s like marking your own homework, but it can be a useful tool to know where you’re up to and to identify areas for development.
The annually renewable certification scheme is aligned to five technical controls designed to prevent the most common internet-based cyber security threats. Addressing these 5 controls, the answers must then be signed-off by a board member or equivalent and the answers are then marked by an independent Assessor.
Level Two: Cyber Essentials Plus
First of all, it’s important to note that the verified self-assessment questionnaire of Cyber Essentials is a prerequisite to Cyber Essentials Plus. However, Cyber Essentials Plus takes protection a step further. While it covers the same core controls as Cyber Essentials, the Plus certification requires an independent, qualified auditor to carry out hands-on technical verification. This provides external validation and greater assurance that your systems are secure by an approved body.
